Sample Characters: Mazili, Noir, Savelle, and Torvan
There are a few places in the Core Rulebook where I reference a couple of prototypical player-characters: Mazili the Rito wizard, Noir the Twili songstress, Savelle the Hylian rogue, and Torvan the Zora knight. I’ve had these four in mind as ‘sample characters’ since the beginning of development, I never fully statted them out for play.
With the release of Version 1.0, however, I figured it was time to bring these four characters to life. Not only would it serve as a nice coda on the development process for me, but they might serve new players well: both as examples to follow, and as characters you can grab and immediately begin using.
Check them out below!
To be clear: You are absolutely welcome to take these Heroes, and either play them for yourself, tweak them to suit your needs, or just use them as a starting point and reference for your own characters.
Mazili, the Rito wizard is a pretty straightforward wizard, with a few different spells that can be used to pew-pew foes from afar. Magnesis serves as a powerful, useful utility spell, as well.
Noir, the Twili songstress is a tricky character, preferring to solve problems with diplomacy or manipulation than with direct damage. Her Dark Brambles spell can keep a foe from getting near her, or suffer in the process – and if they do reach her, her Bubble’s Touch spell can both cause pain and stop an opponent’s sword-arm.
Savelle, the Hylian rogue is a man of the wilderness, but who loves getting into trouble in towns. He prefers to use bows and arrows to fell foes, using Pinning Shot to halt their advance and Skirmish Strike to maneuver both himself and his prey around the battlefield.
Torvan, the Zora knight is intended to be very, very difficult to take down. With a shield, the Great Bay Barrier spell, and Rauru’s Shield magic, he can put up an indomitable defense. He can then compel foes to attack him with Koridai Countenance, and help friends out of a jam with Commander’s Call.
