Announcing the Winners of the 3rd Annual Homebrew Jam!

We’ve counted the votes. We’ve read all the entries. And now, it’s time to reveal the winners!

Milly and I had a blast reading them all. It warms my heart to see how much people enjoy working in this system’s framework, expanding its systems and bringing in new challenges, adventures, and rewards. We had more entries this year than in any other year previously, a record twenty entries! And a whole lot of them were built to match this year’s theme, Ever Upwards.

Catch the final tallies down below!

The Winners

In Third Place… we have a three way tie! So let’s give it up for…

  • Fight and Flight, by ClapofThunder!
  • Races of the Sky Era, by JimiboyGM!
  • Release the Worthy, by BucketGod!

Since we had so many entrants in this year’s contest, and since these entries all tied for third place with an impressive number of votes each, we’re going to go ahead and give each of them the third place prize. That’s a lot of gift cards, and a lot of highlight articles! But they deserve it.

In Second Place… Grappler’s Expansion, by JcaLord! This homebrew does just what it says: if you enjoy grabbing your foe and beating them into submission, then there’s probably a character option for you in here. This also helps provide some magical support for such builds, enabling forcible size-changes and protection from projectiles – so your grapplers can get in there and go toe-to-toe with some of the biggest foes.

For Developer’s Choice… Cleaning the Wild, by Ramos! We were all delighted by this entry, which effectively turns Reclaim the Wild into something akin to Minecraft. With the ability to reshape the terrain to your advantage, you can really customize your game world, down to the very last square. And while this entry was also tied for 3rd place, we just couldn’t help but highlight it as our favorite.

For Most Upwards… Sea of Mist, by Viyers! This tome includes rules for creating, manning, and traveling with airships. We’ve long wanted to include rules for large vessels like this, so we’re really excited to hear tales of people playing out their sky pirate, steampunk, or globe-trotting fantasies with these rules.

For First Place… Ride the Wind Variety Pack, by Xaetamin! This homebrew document contains techniques, spells, and magical tools that all focus on helping up your vertical gameplay. Whether you want to mix them into a high-flying adventure, or just add a little classic Nintendo hop-n-bop flavor to your game, these character options deserved to leap right into first place.

As in prior years, we’re going to try and highlight all of these entries with their own individual articles in the coming year. We’ll also be contacting them directly, to coordinate their gift card rewards – so keep an eye out for that soon, winners!

if you’ll indulge me, I want to reiterate a sentiment I shared in the Discord channel, as I was reviewing all of this year’s entries. My heart is full, seeing all the work that everyone put into their homebrew entries, knowing that they enjoy working within the system, playing games in it, or just talking about it. Even if your homebrew didn’t win a prize, please know that I read it, I loved it, and just seeing it there gave me a smile. So: thank you, everyone, who participated, who gave feedback, and who encouraged us to go ever upwards.
