Wild on the Web: Kotaku

Kotaku.com

This is a big one! A day and a half ago, Kotaku – one of the biggest gaming news sites out there – ran a short article about us! You can check that article out here.

Needless to say, the response has been mind-blowing and heart-warming. People have been sharing Kotaku’s Facebook and Twitter posts with their friends, and it’s even spawned a few subsequent Reddit posts. And dozens of people have flooded our Discord channel, asking questions and organizing their own games.

Just to give a sense of how big a boost this is, here’s a quick look at the website’s stats.

In short, we’ve already seen something like 8 times as many more visitors this month, than in any other previous month. And we’re not even a full week into June yet!

While I’m at it, I want to give a shout-out to the newly-minted mods of our Discord server: frigidScholar, Nintaku, Mei, and Unknown Quantity. They’ve been a huge help in keeping things organized, answers newcomers’ questions, and being a positive, welcoming force in our community. Couldn’t have survived this without y’all!

So yeah – thanks, Kotaku!

  1. That Kotaku article is what brought me here in the first place, actually. I am pretty new at running roleplays, and I would like to focus on learning on the rules before going on as to come up with a full script of events and encounters. You think you could make a sample adventure PDF please?
  2. Something that highly amuses me is the number of people on the article saying "This looks too number-crunchy to me". I'm tempted to show them the Pokemon Tabletop Game. Honestly, this game is highly logical with the rules and systems, and isn't number crunchy at all. I think what it is is that it leaves stuff open to the players and DM's interpretation, and that "wiggle room" is really awesome for experienced RPers but scary as all heck to newcomers. Also, yeah, Hi. Kotaku article led me here. Was rolling up characters like, the day after I read the whole thing cover to cover. Going to be working on a campaign already this weekend!
    • Personally, I like the way it's not too number-focused. I even came up with some new Assist mode house rules to make it even more simple, such as not requiring a Forge to craft tools/weapons.
