Vote in the Wild Homebrew Jam!

The submission period for the first ever Wild Homebrew Jam is now over!

Now, it’s time for everyone to vote on their favorite homebrew offerings. Visit the #jam-submissions channel, and react to submissions with the new +1 emote to vote for them! You can vote for as many submissions as you like, but please only use one account per person to vote for submissions.

As you’re voting for submissions, we heartily encourage you to read everyone’s homebrew. If you haven’t already, give its creator some feedback! Let them know what you liked, or disliked; how things could be improved, or how you’d like to see it expanded upon. Even if you don’t upvote a homebrew creation, feedback is good to receive, and might help their next creation be better!

You have until December 10th, 12 PM GMT to cast your votes! Once everyone’s voted, we’ll reveal the winners – and the winner of our “Developer’s Choice” award – in the next blog post.

Join the Wild Homebrew Jam!

This year, we’re doing something fun and new to celebrate our community, to break in our newly-revamped Wiki, and to encourage the creation of all kinds of new homebrew content for Reclaim the Wild: a Wild Homebrew Jam!

For those who don’t know what a “Jam” is, it’s a celebration of creation and content created by people. The Global Game Jam, for example, is one of the biggest game design events of the year, dedicated to the creation of games in less than 3 days. While we don’t expect anyone to work quite that quickly, you only have until the end of November to submit your new homebrew content for this event.

We’re looking for homebrew of any kind! It could be new gameplay options (like new Races, Feats, Techniques, or Spells); it could be new adventures (like modules and encounters); it could be whole new systems! We’re open to almost anything, but your homebrew content must be original, safe for work, and wholly made by you within the month of November!

The developers and moderators are even offering prizes for a select few high-quality homebrew submissions! Your homebrew content can get special recognition, be featured on the website, and even earn you a Nintendo eShop gift card!

So check out the rules below, and we hope to see you in our Discord, submitting new homebrew!!

New Races: Minish & Skull Kid

Today, we have two new Races that are perfect fits for Halloween sessions of Reclaim the Wild – or for any campaign that needs a touch of the sweet, and of the spooky. We’re bringing you the Minish and Skull Kid Races!

These Races also come with two new kinds of items, the Kinstone and the Decorative Mask. Even if you don’t allow your players to use these Races, you might allow their influence by including these two new kinds of items.

These races were created by longtime community member Maddie. She’s been a positive, prolific presence on the Discord; I doubt this will be the last of her work we post on the website. We also have a Miniboss of one of these Races, courtesy of community member Blizzard.

Check out the new Races, Items, and Miniboss, below!

Version 2.01

Whenever players ask a rules question in the Discord channel, someone else is pretty quick to answer. Sometimes this is a developer, such as myself or Milly, or one of our community moderators. Often, however, it’s another member of the community, one player helping another better understand the rules and their interactions.

Even when a developer isn’t involved in answering a rules question, we try to keep an ear to the ground. “Maybe we can clarify that in the next version,” we say, as we add it to our list of things to look at. And we also note down player feedback, from our own campaigns and from the community at large. While the system works pretty well, there’s always ways to improve it.

Today, after about half a year of collecting feedback, cataloguing typos, and noting where players get confused, we present Version 2.01 of Reclaim the Wild.

Highlights include:

  • A revamp of how light works, including codifying dim, fair, and bright lights
  • A new Feat to help Companion-focused Heroes power up their sidekicks
  • Fixes and improvements to just about every monster in the Bestiary
  • Clarifications and improvements to how Heavy Weapons work
  • …and dozens of other clarifications, fixes, balance tweaks, and improvements!

You can download the new rules here or here, as always. And also as always, we’d love to hear your feedback!

Skills from Sheik

Everyone loves a ninja. In the many Zelda worlds, few characters encompass that allure more than Sheik, the mysterious stranger skilled in the lost arts of the Sheikah. Who is he? What are his goals? These questions drew players into the story of Ocarina of Time, and Sheik’s allure has continued even long after his mysteries have been resolved.

Art by Nintendo

Today, we present some Techniques based on Sheik’s exploits, so that you might also be as cool and powerful as this enigmatic warrior. These Techniques are ideal for Heroes who want to move and strike quickly, and keep opponents from knowing exactly who or where they are.

Check ’em out below!
