Part 1: Introductions

The Heroes are on their way to Akamar, a town at the end of a river. The town stands at the entrance of the Vale of Mist, so named for the waterfall and its mists, on the other side of town. The town is only marginally useful, as most trade goods will get off at towns further upstream for easier transport elsewhere. The town does have a fun festival coming up, though - the Festival of Stars, when the night is always perfectly clear and the stars seem to light up extra-bright.

The Heroes should take this time to introduce one another. If you haven't yet, now is a great time to generate Ties and do a little role-playing to get to know one another.

Part 2: Town Gate

The Heroes arrive at Akamar's town gate. The gate is currently closed. There's a single guard at the gate, and a merchant (and his wagon) there.

At this point, ask the Heroes to each make a Perception check. The DC on this check is 10. This means, have each Hero roll two dice (2d6), and add their Perception Trait to that number. If their total meets or beats a 10, then that Hero succeeds; otherwise, they fail to perceive the coming danger.

Chervyl, the merchant, wants to be let in. However, the guard, Rue, sees the same thing that those Heroes who succeed on their check also see: a small troupe of Stalhounds, rising from the ground. Thus, Rue keeps the gate closed - the Stalhounds need to be kept outside of the town, at all costs.

Part 3: Stalhound Attack!

The party is set upon by a group of Stalhounds. There are as many Stalhounds as there are Heroes in the party, plus 1.

The Stalhounds aren't set on any particular goal; they want to attack all living things equally. They may also occasionally attack Chervyl's cart.

Rue will fight alongside the Heroes, though her priority is the town gate - she prefers to attack any Stalhounds who approach the gate. Chervyl will simply cower in a corner, too afraid to fight.

    • Teaching:** This is the most basic fight, so it's intended to teach basic mechanics of fighting.
